Depression

The Depression Profile – Females is a specialized blood test designed to assess key physiological and hormonal factors that may contribute to depression in women. This profile provides an in-depth look at hormonal balance, thyroid function, vitamin levels, and metabolic markers, which can all influence mood, energy levels, and overall mental health. Depression overview Depression is a complex mental health condition that can have multiple causes, including hormonal fluctuations, nutritional deficiencies, and metabolic or thyroid disorders. For women, hormonal changes related to menstruation, pregnancy, menopause, or conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can significantly affect mood and mental health. Additionally, issues such as low thyroid function, imbalances in reproductive hormones, or deficiencies in essential vitamins like B12 can contribute to feelings of fatigue, low mood, and cognitive difficulties. Addressing these physical factors is crucial to managing and treating depression effectively. Indications for testing The Depression Profile – Females is recommended for women who are experiencing symptoms of depression, including persistent sadness, fatigue, irritability, or difficulty concentrating. It is also useful for women who suspect that hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, or nutritional deficiencies might be contributing to their mental health challenges. This profile is especially valuable for women going through life stages such as puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause, which are often associated with significant hormonal changes. What can be detected? This comprehensive profile helps detect: Hormonal imbalances, such as abnormal levels of progesterone, estradiol, FSH, and LH, which are crucial for reproductive health and can influence mood and emotional well-being. Thyroid dysfunction, including conditions like hypothyroidism, which can lead to fatigue, weight gain, and depressive symptoms. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly low levels of vitamin B12, which are known to affect mood, energy levels, and cognitive function. Metabolic health, including glucose and cholesterol levels, which can contribute to overall health and may influence mood and mental clarity. By evaluating these key factors, this profile helps identify underlying physical causes of depression, supporting a more personalized approach to mental health care. Who is this test for? This profile is ideal for women experiencing depressive symptoms who suspect that underlying physical factors may be contributing to their condition. It is particularly beneficial for women going through hormonal transitions, such as menopause, or those with a history of thyroid issues, vitamin deficiencies, or reproductive health concerns. Fasting requirements Fasting is required for 8-10 hours prior to the test to ensure accurate measurement of glucose and lipid levels. Follow any additional instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure reliable results.

No, there is no need for a doctor’s request to book. However, it’s recommended to discuss your symptoms with your GP.
No lab test is 100% accurate. However, medical testing that takes place in certified laboratories in the U.S. is performed by trained professionals and follows rigorous quality assurance standards with extensive oversight. You can trust the data generated by today’s exacting medical tests. However, test results are most reliable when used in conjunction with other meaningful information, such as your medical and family histories and a physical exam. Additionally, there should be open communication between you and your doctor or other members of your health care team.
Turnaround time for most of the tests is up to 24 hours, however the tests such as genetic, virology, STI’s… will take from 5 days to 2 weeks
Typically, a blood sample is taken by inserting a needle into a vein, usually in your arm. Before your blood is drawn, an elastic band is tied around your upper arm to increase blood in the veins, and the puncture location is wiped clean with an antiseptic. A blood draw using a needle may cause a temporary sting. The blood draw normally lasts for less than a minute.
