Coagulation Profile I

Coagulation Profile I is a specialized blood test that evaluates how well your blood clots. It helps diagnose bleeding or clotting disorders, monitor anticoagulant therapy, and assess liver function, which plays a key role in clotting factor production.

Indications for Testing

This test is recommended for individuals with symptoms of abnormal bleeding or clotting, such as easy bruising, frequent nosebleeds, heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, or excessive bleeding after injury or surgery. It is also commonly used to monitor anticoagulant treatment, assess liver disease, and evaluate bleeding risk before surgical procedures. What Does It Measure? The Coagulation Profile I includes:

Prothrombin Time (PT) / International Normalized Ratio (INR): Assesses how long blood takes to clot and is essential for monitoring warfarin therapy and liver function.
Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT): Evaluates the intrinsic clotting pathway and helps identify clotting factor deficiencies or inhibitors.
Fibrinogen: Measures the level of fibrinogen, a key protein needed for clot formation. Abnormal levels may indicate bleeding disorders, inflammation, or liver disease.

Fasting Requirements

Are lab tests accurate?

No lab test is 100% accurate. However, medical testing that takes place in certified laboratories in the U.S. is performed by trained professionals and follows rigorous quality assurance standards with extensive oversight. You can trust the data generated by today’s exacting medical tests. However, test results are most reliable when used in conjunction with other meaningful information, such as your medical and family histories and a physical exam. How long it takes to get my results?

Turnaround time for most of the tests is up to 24 hours, however the tests such as genetic, virology, STI’s… will take from 5 days to 2 weeks

How is a blood sample collected?

Typically, a blood sample is taken by inserting a needle into a vein, usually in your arm. Before your blood is drawn, an elastic band is tied around your upper arm to increase blood in the veins, and the puncture location is wiped clean with an antiseptic. A blood draw using a needle may cause a temporary sting. The blood draw normally lasts for less than a minute.
