Heavy Metals Screen

The Heavy Metals Screen is a detailed blood test designed to detect elevated levels of toxic heavy metals and essential trace elements in the body. This test helps identify potential exposures or accumulations of harmful substances, which can have significant health implications. Indications for testing The Heavy Metals Screen is recommended for individuals who suspect exposure to environmental or occupational toxins, are experiencing unexplained symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, or neurological issues, or are concerned about heavy metal toxicity. It is also useful for individuals undergoing chelation therapy or those with health conditions that might be affected by heavy metal exposure, such as kidney dysfunction or chronic illnesses. What can be detected? The Heavy Metals Screen measures the levels of several key heavy metals and essential trace elements: Chromium: Essential for glucose metabolism; elevated levels may indicate exposure to industrial pollutants. Arsenic: A toxic element found in contaminated water or certain pesticides; high levels can lead to serious health problems. Lead: Common in older homes and industrial settings; exposure can cause neurological and developmental issues. Mercury: Often found in certain fish and industrial emissions; high levels can impact kidney function and neurological health. Nickel: Used in various alloys and can be a source of allergic reactions or respiratory issues. Selenium: An essential antioxidant; both deficiency and excess can affect health. Zinc: Important for immune function and enzyme activity; imbalances can lead to various health issues. Cadmium: Associated with industrial exposure; high levels can impact kidney function and bone health. Copper: Essential for cardiovascular health; imbalances can affect the liver and other organs. Who is this test for? The Heavy Metals Screen is suitable for both men and women who are concerned about potential exposure to heavy metals or are experiencing symptoms that may suggest toxicity. It is particularly useful for individuals with occupational exposure, those living in areas with high environmental pollution, or anyone with unexplained health issues that might be linked to heavy metal accumulation. Fasting requirements Fasting is not required for the Heavy Metals Screen. However, it is advisable to follow any specific preparation instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure accurate results.

No, there is no need for a doctor’s request to book. However, it’s recommended to discuss your symptoms with your GP.
No lab test is 100% accurate. However, medical testing that takes place in certified laboratories in the U.S. is performed by trained professionals and follows rigorous quality assurance standards with extensive oversight. You can trust the data generated by today’s exacting medical tests. However, test results are most reliable when used in conjunction with other meaningful information, such as your medical and family histories and a physical exam. Additionally, there should be open communication between you and your doctor or other members of your health care team.
Turnaround time for most of the tests is up to 24 hours, however the tests such as genetic, virology, STI’s… will take from 5 days to 2 weeks
Typically, a blood sample is taken by inserting a needle into a vein, usually in your arm. Before your blood is drawn, an elastic band is tied around your upper arm to increase blood in the veins, and the puncture location is wiped clean with an antiseptic. A blood draw using a needle may cause a temporary sting. The blood draw normally lasts for less than a minute.
